- Use brushes from DeviantArt
- Use Freewebs (webs.com) to host your website
- Make your portfolio professional yet appealing
- Simplicity is ideal
- DO NOT USE COPYRIGHTED IMAGES & CREDIT ALL BRUSHES, IMAGES, CODES, ETC
- Include a disclaimer at the bottom
- Have fun & incorporate your own personality!
Remember, this is a big factor in who gets the BTT Award so make it original, professional and appealing!

PHEW FINALLY THE SUMMATIVE IS DONE! (well for everyone except for me since I'm doing some extra credit stuff since I missed a test)
Cloud Base Computing
- dream of computer companies to come up with a cloud base operating system
- in last few months, iCloud has developed web based operatiing system (whole thing is online, portable apps, etc)
- browser becomes desktop
I looked it over and I have to say that this discovery has truly been amazing since I never knew such a thing existed.

My rant on BTT
Wednesday, May 27, 2009 // 8:59 AM
OMG :| BTT Summative due friday! I'm so scareddd. But you know what? I shouldn't be because we have so many resources at our service that all we really have to do is follow the instructions and be creative!
Mr. Case has provided us with all the essential tools and we have to make sure to employ these tools to the best of our ability. BTT is something that we will see more and more in life and it is best that we are educated right now to make sure our future is bright with knowledge!
Today I worked on my business letter and I really want to make my logo better.
We talked about taxation & portable format.
In ontario you are subject to a number of taxes. e.g. food sertax (sp?), taxed for importing, disposal taxes, make any money over $9000 you need to pay income tax,
When you do a tax return, you get credits by calculating certain activities and you can get money back from the government.
- our taxes pay for OHIP (health card), teachers/school, police officers, firemen/firewomen, military, government services, roads,
taxation in regards to sales tax -
- pst & gst = 13%
- 8% pst, 5% gst
- if your a business making less than 30, 000 , you don't have to pay gst
Good luck,
- Serena

Work period!
Monday, May 25, 2009 // 9:09 AM
Today we were graciously given a work period to work on our summative which is due this week! I'm really scared but I guess if I manage my time well, I should be able to do it.
Print out ONE mail merge, brochure, letterhead, etc
electronically hand in:
- five letters
- data source
- original mail merge
- webpage
It's not the complete list but I hope it helps! The business blog is always the best place to look for info!
Sincerely,
- Serena

Continue on Business Letter
Friday, May 22, 2009 // 9:23 AM
Today in class we continued to finish our business letters!
I looked up a few sites to help me as well as use the one that Mr. Case used. I tried to make sure that my point was heavily supported by persuasive points. Since I am of a young age, a lot of people won't take me seriously and believe that I have the initiative to do well in my business. Therefore, a business letter is fundamental to my success since it is basically my chance to impress my potential customers or business partners.
Structuring a business letter with the correct format will also add a degree of professionalism.
Off to work on my business letter!

Write to impress!

For the summative, the quality of your project is vital for the success of your grade. The finished product should be put into binders with good copies of works that look professional & organized.
MLA - modern language association
typically, a business letter uses arial or times new roman 10-12 size
first thing on the top of your business letter is the date, on the left hand side. Use a consistent format the whole way through. Next is the senders' address.
However there are times when you don't put it such as when you already have a letterhead. After the senders' address is the recipients' address. Afterwards is the salutations (e.g Dear ____, To Whom It May Concern, etc). Be as specific as possible. Sometimes you can put the senders' address on the bottom after your closing regards (Sincerely,) to personalize the letter further but its up to you.
Body of your letter has 3 parts: Introduction, Middle, Conclusion.
Introduction: introduces why you are writing the letter. This has to be important and convincing so that they will continue reading your letter. It tells the reader why you are writing to them.
Middle: convincing them. Supporting your points.
Conclusion: ends off the letter.
Everything is left justified.

Many samples on the internet so be sure to check them out. Make sure they are in MLA format.
Signature block will have your phone number & perhaps, also your address.
Letterhead is seperate, it can be any font & creative. letterhead should not have a date.
Proper MLA format you either indent each paragraph or you put a space in between each letter but
NEVER BOTH. (usually better if you put a space between)
Assignment :
Writing a business letter in mail merge format
- 5 potential people you want to solicit your business to
- convince the people (e.g. offer them first product half price, etc)
- conclude by thanking them for the time that they took to read the letter
Final Product:
1 Printed Letter
Electronally handing in the data set, the original letter and the five letters sent are among these files too.
Goal for summative:
- prove to Mr. Case that you can use all the tools that we've learned
- convince him that the business will succeed because of your knowledge that you learned this year in BTT
- sell the business, prove that you're serious
* as a subsitute for DreamWeaver, use Page Breeze!
Guys let's do good things for this summative and impress Mr. Case so that we can be proud of our accomplishment!
Goodbye,
- Serena
